== What ==
[https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/ Google Summer of Code], or GSoC, is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school.

Fedora already plans to participate in the 2016 GSoC rounds, and CommOps wants to be actively involved with this awesome program too.

We will be having an informal "hacker session" from 21:00 - 24:00 UTC in a Google+ Hangout. There's a lot of things we want to accomplish in that time frame, and this ticket is one of them. We intend to flesh out both the CommOps and Hubs GSoC slot and get it ready for proposal tonight. The deadline for proposal is Friday.

This is intended to be finished tonight. For a short time, this ticket will not be urgent or a priority for this week, as there will be a delay from the proposal time until we have applicants to choose from. Until this becomes an urgent matter again, the ticket has been escalated and removed from the meeting agenda. In the event that the proposal drafting task is '''''NOT''''' finished tonight, this ticket should be re-escalated.

= Milestone Reached: Organization Application =
A first and important milestone was hit for GSoC. Our organization application has been completed and submitted to Google. The crucial pages in the wiki linked above have been edited and revised to be "ready to go" for the application.

A few small changes might need to be made (e.g. formatting of project proposals) and some minor pages might need to be created soon, but the core, necessary parts have been completed.

''This is an excellent wiki gardening task to take on!! ''

Adding to today's agenda to announce our current progress and what is on the horizon.

= Now what? =
Now that Fedora has applied as a mentoring organization, we will know all of the slots we were awarded on '''February 29th'''. We will create a CommBlog post detailing our slots once we know if CommOps will be getting a slot this round.

= Want to mentor? =
Want to be a mentor for GSoC? There's a process to become an official mentor on the [https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/resources/mentors GSoC site]. However, all Fedorans are welcome to help as mentors in #fedora-summer-coding on Freenode and the summer-coding mailing list!

The next big step for this ticket will come when we hear back from Google on April 11th (or so). For now, I don't think there's much else to do on this ticket until GSoC gets rolling.

For the time being, we will remove this from our meeting agenda!

The end of Google Summer of Code came this past week. Final announcements were posted today about students in the program. I think the work for CommOps on this one is finished. I would like to see a retrospective on GSoC go onto the Community Blog, but it would require someone else to write it… I don't have enough cycles to go through it right now.

For now, I'm calling this complete.
