The mailing list thread does a more verbose job of explaining the concept and original thoughts on this idea. This ticket will provide a short summary of the thread and serve as a location to track progress on this idea.

== Part 1: What is it? ==
Online schools and classes are a common thing in 2016. Almost everywhere you look, you can find online courses for learning new skills or universities that offer degrees that can be earned in online curriculum. There's also sites like Codecademy.com that teach programming lessons in an online format. What if people interested in contributing to Fedora could take a crash course in learning how to contribute to a sub-project of Fedora?

Introducing "Fedora University", or FedoraU. FedoraU could be an online platform of lessons or curriculum curated by Fedora contributors teaching interested individuals about the steps necessary to become a Fedora contributor and how to get involved with the sub-project that interests them most. These lessons would teach some of the fundamental aspects universal to any sub-project, and as they progress, they would learn more about the resources, workflow, and tools utilized by a specific sub-project.

This is really a Good Idea

Gone are the days of tedious wiki navigation and long paragraphs of text. FedoraU offers courses in a natural flow that take the "student" from point A to B, and with interesting and engaging content, including but not limited to videos, interactive media, and more.

== Part 2: Planning and organizing ==
As mentioned in the mailing list thread and in the IRC meeting, this is a large goal and requires a lot of work and coordination, beyond just the CommOps team. CommOps will help serve as the navigator and core push behind the effort, but this will require collaboration and planning from many others beyond just us.

At the time of filing, the best method of deploying something like a "FedoraU" seems to be with Fedora Hubs. The interests of both seem to line up and this type of content would likely have the largest impact as part of Fedora Hubs.

I agree it requires lot of work and co-ordination, but we should start with something small like videos (which is also a very difficult task)
== Part 3: Executing ==
How to execute this will vary as defining what this is and how to make it happen progresses. It has been identified that this would be something great to have in place by Fall 2017.

I think there's a lot of overlap with this idea and Fedora Hubs, in retrospect. Ideally, Fedora Hubs could be a good place to '''deploy''' this curriculum, the real challenge would be to '''develop''' it.

We took a moment to look back on this ticket. The needs for infrastructure and development that this ticket would require would be immense and isn't something that we could realistically achieve at this time. Instead, we're going to refocus our efforts on making this idea happen as the Fedora Classroom of old along with the Join SIG. More info will be posted into a new ticket soon.
