#228 Poll about Rootconf 2016 budget
Closed: Invalid None Opened 8 years ago by pjp.

Hello,

So far Red Hat has been a sponsor at an yearly 'Rootconf'
conference in Bangalore, India. But this year they could
not accommodate it into budget.

-> https://rootconf.in/2016/

We(Fedora) has an allocated ~300/- USD budget for this event.

-> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Singapore_2015/Events

I spoke to the event organizers for having a Fedora booth at Rootconf,
they are looking for about Rs 50,000/-(=~ 750 USD) for a booth.
This means, we may not have budget for any travel subsidies for attendees.

I was wondering if it'd be possible for us to raise our allocated(USD 300/-)
budget by some margin? Maybe around ~500 USD?

I'm negotiating with the organizers and also trying to find out if we could
raise the balance amount in anyway.

We need confirmations from APAC(non-India) ambassadors to raise our
allocated Fedora budget for the Rootconf 2016.

If it's okay with you, please vote for the same here.

Thank you.

+1.

We had allocated $3000 for [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BarCamp_Yangon_2016 BarCamp Yangon 2016] but we have spent only 1210.

I think we can use remaining budget for Rootconf.
+1 from me too.

+1. It is one the largest event in India for DevOps and we have contributors speaking there. So it makes sense to have a booth.

I usually dislike the idea of paying for a booth because the ROI is very bad due to different motivations. Fedora acted as a Sponsor in the past for events (like CLT in Germany). So, why not spend some money, especially if there is a leftover of around 1800 USD from another event.

I'm fine with not going. Having a booth at an event like this should be a priority over having more non-India ambassadors.

All the best for your negotiations!

@pravins you a little bit wrong the money for Barcamp Yangon came from the budget of the last year not this years. So this money is gone.

@adimania "its one" ooh well there are more? So lets choose then the one we dont have to pay the booth

@PJP looking through the budget plan, is there a indian event where 200$ can be saved?

I don't think it is necessary to divide APAC two smaller areas in this case.
I believe that we can have/save this small amount from anywhere in APAC (remember, we could not spend enough last a few year), or we can even ask for more.
Thing here is just if it's worth to spend such that money for that booth in that event.

Good news, we managed to get full(INR 50K) sponsorship from Red Hat.
We save all of pre-allocated 300/- USD budget of Rootconf.

Thank you.

Aha, thank you for an update. I hope new fedora budget website will make picture clear. :)

It is one, the other one is devopsdays. Neither of them would be free of cost for us. Rootconf sees more people than devopsdays. So if we have to spend money, it makes sense to spend it where there are more people and contributors are speaking and organizing workshops.

Sorry, I don't understand completely. What do you mean?

ie. RH would sponsor the Fedora booth at Rootconf 2016.
We need not spend Fedora budget(300/- USD) for the booth.
We need not raise it to 500/- USD either.
