#111 APPROVED: Travel subsidy for udinnet to FOSSASIA 2014
Closed: Fixed None Opened 10 years ago by udinnet.

I'll attend [http://fossasia.org FOSSASIA 2014] to give a one talk about OpenShift Origin and do a hands of session on Fedora LVM. Since I'm still studying it not possible me to cover the travel expenses my self. So I'm requesting fund support (from APAC FY2014 budget). I've selected the most economy flights from Malaysian Airlines(Most cheapest way to travel CMB->PNH->CMB).

||= Item =||= Cost =||= Description =||
|| Travel Charges || $543 (LKR 70957 => oanda.com) || from [http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/uk/en.html Malaysian Airlines] ||

Hi,

Since we(Sri Lankans) don't have the paypal money receiving feature, there is no way for me to reimburse my travel expenses. So, if jsimon can buy the air tickets on my behalf, it is very convenient for me.

Thanks.

@jsimon: can we simply ask the event owner (mariobehling) to reimburse to udinnet and you can send money to Mario's PayPal account?

Since this is a special case, I'm assigning this ticket to jsimon where it deviate slightly from new process explained in #112.

@jsimon
As tuan said, can I reimburse my expenses (after providing airline ticket bills) @ fossasia. As you remember from last time (#74), I've no way to reimburse directly to myself.
The event owner of fossasia agreed ([http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting/2014-01-18/apac.2014-01-18-04.02.log.html]) to reimburse me @ the event if they got money to their event paypal account. Can you kindly consider this?

I just looked at the flight schedules and costs today. Unfortunately the amounts are slightly different now. CMB->PHN->CMB is now LKR 79,057.00

I checked with [http://airasia.com] for two connecting flights. But they have big transit times such as 27 hours.

So I'm going for the [http://malaysiaairlines.com] option. So the total will be LKR 79057.00 => USD 604.282 (according to [http://www.oanda.com/currency/converter/]).

@jsimon, The organizer of FOSSASIA just sent me their event paypal account email. it is invoice[at]fossasia[dot]org

Attached the airline reservation ticket. Total value is LKR 79,057.00
air_ticket.pdf

jsimon told me that his CC has been over the limit so he can process your ticket next week only.
Thanks for your patience.

@tuanta Thanks. That is ok with me. I'll inform Mario Behling / Hong Phuc Dang to collect the reimbursement on behalf of me. the paypal email is invoice[at]fossasia[dot]org.

@tuanta, I tried to contact @jsimon. But I didn't worked. If the reimbursement will not be made on or before the event. I'll not be able to get the money. Any solution please.

As far as I know, reimbursement only occurs after the event. The wiki page says that we can make exceptions, but I don't know what process is to be followed.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Reimbursements

I'll see if I can get in touch with Jeorg.

Since there are two days more to FOSSASIA to commence, It seems things will not go as planned. I've to find an alternative way to get the reimbursement.

It would be wise to see some other ways to do that right now.
I am trying to contact with jsimon, but no response. He seems quite busy these days.

In the near future, KageSenshi would be a CC holder in APAC. I hope we can improve this much.

Wrote my report about the event and you can find it [http://blog.uditha.org/fossasia-2014 here]. Also more photos can be found [https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10203248891172509.1073741838.1516036035&type=1&l=6132fed5e9 here]

@jsimon, Due to the reasons above explained, can I have some sort of a exception like sending cash via Western Union or MoneyGram?

hi ..

i'm checking out my local western union branch this afternoon on whether they accept credit card ..

will be needing your details later ..

@izhar, Thanks. If western union doesn't do that, please check with MoneyGram. Even if MoneyGram is not a possible solution, you can just reimburse the amount to your paypal and send it to me using either western union or moneygram. I think those are the best possible alternatives.

@tuanta, Thanks :)

seems like my local western union does not accept credit card

i will check with moneygram .. though they are in banks, so will have to find time in weekdays ..

i'm also checking up with the jeanine from RH on what is the policy of money withdrawal from the RH card .. especially considering there are transaction fees involved ..

checking out western union online .. there is a 58USD transaction charge for credit card transfer, absorbed by the sender .. there possibly be a cash advance fee on the card too ...

similarly, transfering to my paypal with incur 3.7% charge on the receiver, 1 USD withdrawal charge and there will also be western union transfer charges .. which can be between 5USD to 50USD transfer charge for 616USD transfer depending on country ..

i need confirmation from RH first on which party will have to absorb the fees ..

Thanks a lot izhar. I hope we can figure out something. As I seen in normal routine, the person who gets the reimbursement will anyhow get the exact amount. So I'm suspecting that jsimon is baring the transfer cost from the senders party. For the western union/ MoneyGram case, I think the transfer charge will be around $10. From my experience, MoneyGram will be the most convenient one.

Jsimon always sends the exact amount on the receipt(s) (or the approved amount, if it is lower) via Paypal. And Paypal fees are covered by receivers.

@tuanta, okay.. Since I hadn't any direct paypal experience, I didn't knew the exact procedure.

@izhar, Any updates?

Nice report, thanks.

However, I am not sure if you have already read these guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Event_reports

hi udinnet,

sorry .. i just got paypal activation for the card sorted out (just received the first month statement, with the activation code) ..

however, on the moneygram/western union transfer issue .. i think we need to sort out the policy of transfer charges on who will be baring the cost first.

Even if going through the route of Card -> My paypal -> Moneygram .. for 616USD, there is at least USD30 transfer charge will be incurred on me (and that is for one ticket ...)

If Fedora going to bare the transfer charge , it will need to reflect on our budget.

Hi Izhar,

I'll bare the transfer charges from my side. No worries :). Just in case, here are the details that you required for the money transfer(direct).

Name : PWNPWBUB WIJERATHNA[[BR]]
Swift Code: HBLILKLX[[BR]]
Bank Name: Hatton National Bank PLC SRI LANKA[[BR]]
Account Number : 041020192812[[BR]]

Thanks.

Hi ,

from meeting yesterday we've agreed upon that all end-recipient will have to bear the transaction cost. So I guess the process is clear now.

I need some time to process this as currently very busy with a new $dayjob. perhaps 1-2weeks time including waiting for paypal withdrawal to clear.
