#96 Atomic as separate spin (or, going the other way, main cloud edition)?

See https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/cloud/2015-March/004996.html

I'm wondering if we should consider:

A. Move Atomic out of the Cloud Edition, and treat it as a spin, with a
home at "http://atomic.fedoraproject.org/" (not currently valid),
similar to http://kde.fedoraproject.org — with its own design, theming,
etc.

B. The other way around: double down on Atomic as the primary thing the
Cloud WG releases as the Fedora cloud product. Here, the focus would be
more on containers as the basis for the future of "cattle-style"
scale-out computing, and Atomic as Fedora's cool solution for that.

of course, it's always an option to do

C. Keep as it is, with both options presented as equals for different cases.

Personally, I like "B" from a high-level Fedora perspective, as it's an opinionated solution for a target use case. That's what we want for the Fedora Editions — Wrkstation is a software dev desktop, Server focuses on role deployment via rolekit and cockpit.

On the other hand, it's a pretty big bet on Atomic, and maybe we're not ready for that (or collectively don't think that it's the right bet).

"C" would be a more cautious wait-and-see approach.

See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1200122 for an argument for a separate spin.

Yeah, that would be filled by either A or B. Or, really, C, but it seems more confusing then.

PS: I filed this a ticket to make sure it gets on the meeting agenda, in case that isn't clear.

Sent a proposal to the mailing list (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud/Atomic-2-Week-Proposal) and there were no real objections. Calling Lazy Consensus and so we'll go forward with (A) after the Fedora 22 release until we deem it ready, and then we'll propose it as a product again. (Maybe with its own edition, maybe as part of Cloud.)

"C" is the approach for Fedora 22, however, since we've already committed to producing it for this release.

OK at least I didn't follow up on list but I'm not sure I totally understand the state of this ticket. We're saying for Fedora 22 we'll continue with https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/AtomicHost and whether or not 2/4/6 happens is orthogonal?

I'm going back and forth a lot on how much sense that makes and how it affects the long term planning. Well, I'll follow up on the list and we can reopen this ticket if that makes sense.

In a fit of productive mania, I forgot about this ticket. See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Two_Week_Atomic for a related change proposal. I'm going to refer to jzb's document in that for background.
