Problem

  • What does not work as expected?

Global forwarding breaks when DNS root zone is removed.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. configure global forwarder in server's config in LDAP
    • e.g. ipa dnsserver-mod command
  2. dig existing.but.forwarded.name.example. A
    • should return an IP address
  3. add DNS root zone
  4. delete DNS root zone
  5. dig existing.but.forwarded.name.example. A
    • the answer does not contain A record because forwarding is broken
