I have a testing setup with IPA-enrolled which has strange hostname, with IP addresses managed outside of DNS (in /etc/hosts). When I run service-add, I get
# ipa service-add HTTP/www.example.com ipa: ERROR: Host does not have corresponding DNS A record
That seems pretty serious, allcaps ERROR message.
But {{{ipa help service-add}}} suggests that not having DNS is not actually a blocker for IPA -- {{{--force}}} makes the service created just fine.
Could a hint be printed next to that error message? Something like
# ipa service-add HTTP/www.example.com ipa: ERROR: Host does not have corresponding DNS A record Hint: not having DNS A record is not the end of the world and you can use option --force to override this check if it is OKay in your situation.
There are some objections to this idea: https://www.redhat.com/archives/freeipa-devel/2015-July/msg00259.html
